This summer, however, there’s a new addition to the rotation of photos I see when I log into the app: knotted headbands. It seems like everywhere I look, someone is stepping up their game with an Upper East Sider-approved accessory artfully placed on their crown. Something about juxtaposing a traditional headband with the rogue knot makes the accessories equal parts preppy and boho, which is no easy feat. Oddly enough, the style seems as at home on the beach in Capri as it does in someone’s “why am I working while everyone else is on the Amalfi Coast” selfie. In other words, they are for everyone and go with everything.
Chances are, the hair jewelry you see on the heads of your favorite fashion and beauty grammers and scattered across magazine articles was designed by Lele Sadoughi. She absolutely sells lovely knotted headbands in every color, print and fabric you can imagine – there’s even a tie-dye option that appeals to me – and many of them are decorated with pretty baubles like rhinestones and pearls.
Lele Sadoughi’s headbands are undoubtedly amazing, and she deserves a whole much credit for making headbands as cool as they were when Blair Waldorf wore them on the steps of the Met (#TBT, y’all). But at $40-$185 each, they are admittedly on the pricier end of the hair accessory spectrum. It seems that other designers have taken notice of the viral success of the knotted headband trend and have moved on to some more affordable proprietary options — all of which are available on Amazon and can be had for under $25 a pop.
