My toxic quality is that I can’t physically say no to a good blanket. Walk through my house and you’ll find a throw or a quilt in literally every room: they’re draped over chairs and thrown decoratively over the ends of beds. They are stacked in baskets in case guests come over and need an extra layer (or three) of warmth. They are packed in my car for camping trips and folded up in my linen closets as backups when my go-tos are in the wash.
Has my love for blankets gone too far? Probably. But has this passion for comfort made me a true blanket connoisseur? Absolute. And in my humble but qualified cozy opinion, I can say without a doubt that the UnHide Marshmallow Faux Fur Blanket ($195) is one of the best blankets I’ve ever snuggled under, hands down.
You know that trendy faux fur blanket that keeps getting ads on IG? Or the one your favorite influencer has unpacked in their FabFitFun box? That’s UnHide, a faux fur blanket that feels just as soft as the real thing. Launched by Ellen Degeneres in 2019, UnHide swaps traditional chinchilla for 100 percent vegan fur made from 90 percent recycled plastic.
Seeing these throws on my Instagram last winter made my blanket-hoarding brain go overtime. Between the photos of dreamy plush combined with copy as “soft, velvety interior” and “cuddle puddle”, and I had to have one. The next thing I knew was that my very own Marshmallow was on my doorstep and I haven’t gotten out of it since.
The UnHide Blanket: My Review
The first thing I noticed about this dreamy throw was how heavy it was. This thing is a beast, minus the beastly byproducts. The Marshmallow Medium, which measures 60 by 80 inches, weighs a hefty 9.5 pounds — it’s not appear like many, but as I dragged it to my couch, I quickly realized it’s a lot of blanket.
As someone who doesn’t Love the suffocating feeling of some weighted blankets, I got a little nervous – could it be? at heavy? Would I feel pinned down under the pile of fake cream fur? Turns out, no, I wasn’t. I crawled under it and my scruples melted away faster than the cuddle puddle I would turn into.
This thing… just Wow. I didn’t even notice I was under almost 10 pounds because of the softness, which literally felt like real fur. While the top of each UnHide blanket is made from that faux chinchilla, the bottoms are brushed with a velvety, skin-like interior akin to melted butter.
And thanks to the weight it is so hot† I have a leather couch that often gets cold and I swear you could lie naked under this thing without getting cold. The weight and materials wrap seamlessly around you and keep you (and your friend/partner/dog, if you want to share) nice and warm in all temperatures.
My conclusion? Do you understand
We’ve got a long winter ahead of us – all the more reason to get into an UnHide roll. It’s durable, guilt-free, and warmer than any quilt or weighted blanket you could throw over your couch.
If you have a soft spot for aesthetics, it will capture your heart too. Draped over my leather couch, it looks like an elegant fur from an Upper East Side designer boutique. I’ve got the beige, which goes perfectly with just about anything, but there’s also white, charcoal, gray, pale pink, emerald green, and even a limited-edition print version of the brand’s collaboration with Netflix.
And of course there are other sizes to choose from. If the Medium Marshmallow might be too big or heavy for you, grab a Lil’ Marsh ($45), which comes in three different sizes that are half the weight. Or if it’s not enough, and you’re a big fan of cuddling, add the Cuddle Puddle ($195) to your cart, which also weighs less but covers a whopping 100 by 100 inches.
Take it from me, a self-confessed cozy connoisseur – whatever UnHide blanket you decide to buy, it won’t disappoint. In addition, you now get a 20% discount on your purchase with the code well estate20†
