Tempur-Topper Supreme Completely Transformed My $200 Mattress

my mattress was one of my first major purchases. I had just finished college and moved to New York City to begin college. Understandably, I didn’t want to spend a lot, so I bought the cheapest I could find with the best reviews. For $200 I got a pretty good mattress. I was shocked at how good it felt for the price, but adding the Tempur-Topper Supreme taught me that there is always room for improvement. Now through Monday, January 17, the topper is 40 percent off, saving you over $100.

The Tempur-Topper Supreme has three inches of cloud-like foam material and a cool-to-the-touch removable cover. I have the full size, which usually costs $350, but it currently retails for $210.

At first I wasn’t sure if I would like it. My current mattress feels medium-firm and I crave that level of support. The Tempur-Topper is super soft – dare I say, squishy. What, yes, foam is soft, but this is: real soft. When my boyfriend and I first got into my bed, we were concerned it was too soft. And then we both fell asleep. At 3 p.m. on a Monday. (I wasn’t working that day, but it still felt dramatic.)

Sleeping with the soft topper on my firm mattress is like floating away on a layer of textured marshmallows. In true Tempur-Pedic form, it molds to your body and makes getting into bed feel luxurious. That said, I think I only love it so much because it covers an already firm mattress. I love melting into the super soft material, but if it were thicker than 6″ I think I’d go from a soft support to a sinking discomfort and my low back would hate me.

If you prefer soft mattresses, this should be music to your ears. If you already have a pretty firm mattress and like a medium to medium firm feel, this topper works wonders. But if you like a mattress so stiff that you feel like your weight is barely making a dent, you’ll want to skip this one.

“A good mattress should gently support your entire body and keep your spine in a neutral position, regardless of whether you’re lying on your back, side, or stomach,” says R. Alexandra Duma, DC, a sports chiropractor at a New York City recovery and wellness studio. FICS.

My winning mattress topper combination is on the cutting edge of support and comfort, which, according to Michael Breus, PhD, a sleep expert and clinical psychologist, are not the same.

“There’s a difference between comfort and support,” says Dr. Breus. “Support is when your spine is aligned, allowing your spine to rehydrate and get all of its nourishment for recovery.”

The Tempur-Topper Supreme is great. The only downside is that the three inches it adds on top of my mattress causes my fitted sheet to crawl more often than usual. Try it out, keep in mind that you may decide to size up your sheets or look for sheets with a deeper pocket.

As I type this article from my bed, I can say that my mattress has never felt so comfortable. If you’re hoping to upgrade your mattress but don’t want to break the bank, don’t sleep on it – you’ve found what you’re looking for.
